Musée du quai Branly inaugurated

Dominique de Villepin attended President Jacques Chirac’s inauguration of the Musée du quai Branly on 20 June 2006 in Paris. President Chirac initiated the project in 1995.

The museum, which is dedicated to non-Western art, opened to the public on 23 June 2006. Admission to the museum is free until 25 June.

The museum’s public collection includes some 3,500 objects from Oceania, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

The Musée du quai Branly was designed to reflect cultural diversity. It is “the sign and the symbol of a France that knows and recognises the cultures of the world and the need for dialogue between those cultures”, Chirac emphasised.
